Occupational health and safety is a system of preserving life, health and working capacity of employees in the process of labour activity, which includes legal, socio-economic, organizational, technical, sanitary and hygienic, therapeutic and preventive, rehabilitation and other measures.

State regulations on employment protection establish rules, procedures and criteria aimed at preserving the workers’ life and health in the course of their work activities.

Under Russian law (Article 212 of the Russian Labour Code), obligations to ensure safe employment protection are the responsibility of the employer, specifically the CEO of the company. Every employee must (Article 214 of the Labour Code):

Comply with OHS requirements;

 — Use personal and collective protective equipment correctly;

 — Receive training on employment protection practices, OHS briefings, on-the-job training and OHS knowledge tests;

 — Notify his/her line manager immediately of any life- or health-threatening situation, any occupational accident, or any health impairment, including signs of acute occupational disease or poisoning;

 — Undergo compulsory preliminary and periodic medical check-ups.

In addition to their obligations, every employee has guaranteed rights for employment protection, which are formulated in the Russian legislation.
